Primary Climate Trends

Trends since 1925 in Earth's atmosphere of sulfur dioxide, chlorine, carbon dioxide, ocean heat content, ozone depletion, and temperature.

Increased SO2 pollution (dotted black line) does not appear to contribute to substantial global warming (red line) until total column ozone decreased (black line, y-axis inverted), most likely due to increasing tropospheric chlorine (green line). Mean annual temperature anomaly in the Northern Hemisphere (NOAA, 2014) (red line) and ozone (black line) are smoothed with a centered 5 point running mean. OHC is ocean heat content (dotted purple line).
